I always thought my first time celebrating a One Year Old Birthday would be for a child, but I guess my ministry here in Orlando is my baby in many ways. With the support of many, I have birthed it, nurtured it, and struggled with it for a year now. I have seen it grow from very small to toddler size and watched it learn to walk, to talk, and develop it’s own personality.
So many people have contributed so generously with their money, words of encouragement, time, and prayer to make counseling and jail ministry possible here in Orlando. With your help, I have provided over 600 hours of reduced-fee therapy to men, women, couples, and teens who would normally not be able to afford it. Through my partnership with Summit Church and Inside Out Jail Ministries, I have provided counseling and taught a life skills class inside the Orange County Correctional Facility. I have spoken on the topics of addiction, codependency, shame, and anxiety. This summer, I have the privilege of participating in REC (Residents Encounter Christ), a spiritual growth weekend (similar to Emmaus or Chrysalis) inside the Orange County Jail. I will also be teaching a 60 Minute Seminar on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse through Summit Church’s reGROUP ministry. There are so many exciting things happening here!
I could not do any of this without the financial support of people who believe in this work and in the hope and change possible in other people’s lives. As I continue to grow this ministry, I will raise support for one more year in hopes of being completely self-sustaining by this time 2016. Please join me in celebrating all of the lives and stories that have been changed, and those yet to come.
I am asking the current and potential supporters prayerfully consider supporting this ministry with your financial resources. No gift is too small – every bag of change makes a difference in someone’s life. 95% of my clients are now requiring reduced-fee therapy, and while they all pay something, most pay half or less of my hourly rate. This means I cannot live off what what I make on counseling. I am also in need of financial support to pay for my licensure exam, continuing education classes, client resources, and self-care. I drive some 200 miles a week to get to work, the jail, and meetings and my car is on its last leg. I can’t afford the repairs necessary to keep it going nor can I afford to buy a car at this time. I need help just to get around.
In order to simplify the process, you may visit my fundraising page at http://globalservicenetwork.org/give/50914001/?view. You may enter a one-time gift or a recurring gift. I am desperately in need of monthly support at this time. My goal for the coming year is to raise $12,000 total or $1,000 a month to sustain this ministry. If you would rather mail a check or use a bank draft, please send checks marked with my name and account number (Lindsey Coates, 50914001) to:

I know we can make this happen and that we will be able to celebrate Ministry Baby’s Second Birthday this time next year! Please join me in celebrating. Raise a toast, blow some bubbles, dance around the living room, and say a prayer. I can’t do it without you!
